This release has been tested with the following language and platform combinations in addition to U.S. English:

The following limitation has been identified in the Toad Professional Edition:

Before You Begin

The following user privileges are required for installing and running Toad for DB2.

Note: If you are running a supported DB2 client using v8.1.5 – 8.1.8 and are a Restricted user, you must be granted access to the DB2 Client install directory and subdirectories in order to use the DB2 client.

If you are running a supported DB2 client using version 8.1.9 or later and are a Restricted user, you are automatically given access to these files and directories if you belong to the DB2ADMNS or DB2USERS group.

Please review important installation and upgrade information in the Toad for DB2 Getting Started Guide available from the Windows Start menu under Program Files | Quest Software | Toad for DB2 | Documentation.

Known Issues

Known Issue

Case ID/ Change Request

Installation

If you had a DB2 client installed prior to installing the .NET framework, you may need to re-register the IBM DB2 data provider using the IBM utility db2nmpreg.exe, which is located in the Program Files\IBM\SQLLIB\BIN folder.

Connection

Currently, you cannot connect the DB2 8.1.7a Admin client to a Windows 2003 Server.

CR126667

SQL Modeler

Attempting to delete a record from the Result Sets tab in the SQL Modeler results in an exception error.

CR143158

Editor

If the FixPak or Code Pages on the server and client do not match, you cannot generate a DDL script.

CR136103

Editor

When creating or dropping stored procedures or functions, an intermittent issue may cause Toad to hang or time-out.

CID381011

CR150047

Explain Plan

An error message may display, or the explain plan may hang if you format a script and then attempt to view the explain plan.

CR134422

Debugger

When debugging with the Watches windows open, selecting the Global Watches tab may result in a "Common Language Runtime Debugging Services" error.

CR143891

DDL Script Wizard

Currently, you can include only 30 tables when generating a DDL script.

CR138084

DB Browser/ Obj Palette

When canceling changes made to database authority privileges for users or groups, the change is not reflected in the Authorities tab until you manually refresh the data by pressing F5 on the tab.

CR142105

Reorg Table

A "Quest.Data.DB2.Admin.AdminApiException" error occurs when selecting new options to reorg after previously performing a reorg on the table.

CR140572

Data Grid

If a row contains more than 48077 bytes in a character-based column, an error occurs and a red X displays in the grid.

CR124005

Options

Currently, the option to Prompt for Comment when adding a new file in Version Control is ignored.

CR137118

Schema Compare

If the source schema contains a table alias with the same name as the target schema, synchronizing the schemas results in the target schema name being replaced with the actual table name from the source table.

CR140343

Schema Compare

Attempting to synchronize a stored procedure that contains a distinct type results in an error during the synchronization.

CR141141

SQL Optimizer

If you are using a trial version of Toad, in order to evaluate the SQL Optimizer functionality, you must download and install a trial version of the SQL Optimizer separately from http://www.quest.com/quest_sql_optimizer_for_db2_udb/index.asp.

Once installed, clicking the SQL Optimizer toolbar icon in Toad launches the SQL Optimizer.

CR153015

Third Party Known Issues

Component

Known Issue

Case ID/ Change Request

Connection

Attempting to connect using Turkish Regional Settings currently results in an error that is most likely caused by a string comparison error in the IBM DB2 Provider with certain localized settings.

As a workaround, enter a lowercase uid in the connection string.

For more information about this issue, see http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/cpgenref/html/gnconSecurityCulture-AwareStringOperations.asp

CID382538

CR151165

Connection

Attempting to connect after upgrading a client may result in the following error: "The type initializer for IBM.Data.DB2.DB2Connection threw an exception." To resolve this issue, re-register the IBM DB2 data provider using the IBM utility db2nmpreg.exe, which is located in the Program Files\IBM\SQLLIB\BIN folder.

CID380945

CR138842

Help

The internal help file uses an ActiveX control to enable cross-frame navigation in an internal browser window. Microsoft security update 896358 restricts the use of the ActiveX control due to potential vulnerabilities and results in the internal help topic displaying in the TOC or Index pane. If you want to use internal help, you will need to disable some features in the security update. Refer to Microsoft Knowledge Base article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896905/ for steps to re-enable these features in ActiveX.

CR129554

Help

Opening context sensitive help from the Database Browser or Object Palette, and attempting to navigate to topics that do not display in the DB2 objects entry displays a "Page cannot be found" error. As a workaround, open the help file from the Help | Contents menu option.

CR142600

Editor

If the FixPak or Code Pages on the server and client do not match, you cannot generate a DDL script.

CR136103

Debugger

If you are connecting to a DB2 server with v8.1.5 or later and are unable to debug, this may be due to a known issue in DB2 where execute privileges have not been granted to SYSPROC routines. For information about resolving this issue, refer to http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg1JR21129

CR142618

Debugger

When compiling with debug, it is recommended that you disable AutoCommit (Tools | Options | Database | General) to allow a rollback if there is a problem when dropping and creating the procedure. Once you successfully create the procedure, please remember to commit the changes before starting the debugging session.

Debugger

When debugging, you must enter a value for every start parameter, regardless of whether they are input or output values or an error message incorrectly informs you that the procedure must be compiled with debug information.

CR143234

Debugger

You can only set a breakpoint on a line that the DB2 debugger supports as breakable. If you set a breakpoint on an unsupported type, the debugger ignores the breakpoint. This is a known limitation in the IBM DB2 debugger.

CR136596

DDL Script Wizard

Currently, a script is not generated if the client and server do not have the same FixPak version or the same value for the Codepage.

CR136103

DB Browser/ Obj Palette

Schemas containing empty names or special characters are not supported in this release and will display as QUEST_SCHEMA_PLACE_HOLDER when used.

CR133127

CR133139

Reorg Table

When performing a reorg on a materialized query table that has been converted to a regular table, you cannot use other features in Toad until the reorg is complete.

CR140596

Data Grid

Currently, the DB2 .NET provider does not support DATALINK data types on DB2 clients prior to 8.1.10. Attempting to query a column containing this data type in the Editor or Database Browser results in the following error message:

ERROR [HY009][IBM] CLI0124E  Invalid argument value.  SQLSTATE=HY009lid

As a workaround, you can upgrade to an 8.1.10 client from www-306.ibm.com/software/data/db2/udb/support/downloadv8.html

CR137396
CR137397

Schema Compare

You cannot synchronize schemas if the Code Pages on the compared schemas do not match.

CR141383
