Toad for Data Analysts 2.6 Update

General

You can increase screen real-estate in Toad by pressing SHIFT+ALT+ENTER or selecting View | Full Screen from the menu to hide the default toolbars and display Toad in full screen mode.

In full screen mode, you can switch back to your previous screen size and displayed toolbars by clicking Full Screen beside the menu.

Connections

You can now assign a category such as development or production to connections. This adds an indicator beside the connection in the Connection Manager and color codes Editor tabs. To assign a category to a connection, select an existing category or create a new category from the New Connection or Connection Properties window.

The following displays three Editor tabs from different connections. The first tab has a Development category assigned to it; the second does not have a category assigned, and the third has a Production category assigned to it. Note that the category also displays when you hover over the tab:

You can select the Show category in explorer and object editors checkbox in Tools | Options | Database | General to apply the color coding to, the Object Explorer window and the navigation pane in Object Editor (Create, Alter, Drop, etc.) windows.
For Sybase connections, you can now specify the client character set to avoid connection issues.
For Oracle connections, you can press CTRL+F to open the Find/Replace window to locate entries in the TNS Names Editor. Pressing F3 locates the next entry that matches your criteria.

Database Navigation

ER Diagram

When opening a previously saved Query Builder file, you can right-click the Diagram pane and select Refresh to get the latest objects from the database.

Data Management

Export Wizard

Support for exporting directly to Excel 2007 and Excel 2010.

Query Development

General

You can now toggle the the Pivot & Chart tab to display the pivot grid and chart vertically (default) or horizontally from the right-click context menu.

Query Builder

When opening a previously saved Query Builder file, you can right-click the Diagram pane and select Refresh to get the latest objects from the database.
When using an IN or NOT IN operator on a DateTime column in a Where condition, you can now select multiple entries or all entries.

Editor

The Rename Tab is back by popular demand. In a previous release, this option was removed because of conflicts with version control, but it has been rewritten to avoid these conflicts. To use this feature, press F2 in an Editor or right-click an Editor tab and select Rename Tab.

The temporary name is now stored as an alias.
Files are now added to the Recent Files list when you drag them into the Editor.
You can now apply custom format templates to SQL directly from the Editor by selecting a template from the Format drop-down list on the toolbar. You can customize existing templates or create new templates in Tools | Options | Editor | Formatter.

When saving an Editor file where Group Execute is enabled, Toad defaults to saving the file as a Toad Editor File (.tef). If you save as this file type, the selected group, the selected connections, and any results are also saved in the file.

You can now open a new project or save a project using buttons on the Project Manager toolbar.

Verify that your system meets the following minimum requirements.

Client Requirements

Before installing Toad for SQL Server, ensure your client system meets the following minimum hardware and software requirements:

Platform	600 MHZ minimum, 1 GHz recommended
Memory	512 MB of RAM minimum, 1 GB recommended Note: The memory required may vary based on the following: Applications that are running on your system when using Toad Size and complexity of the database Amount of database activity Number of concurrent users accessing the database
Hard Disk Space	133 MB of disk space for installation. Note: The disk space required may vary based on the edition of Toad selected for installation.
Operating System	Windows Server 2003 (32-bit or 64-bit) Windows XP Professional (32-bit or 64-bit) Windows Vista (32-bit or 64-bit) Windows Server 2008 (32-bit or 64-bit) Windows 7 (32-bit) Important (SQL Server only): Toad uses the Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (DTC) when opening a SQL file to get Full-Text Search status, but DTC is disabled by default on Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008. If you are using either operating system, ensure that Network DTC access is enabled on the Toad client. See http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc753510(WS.10).aspx for more information about enabling DTC access.
Additional Software	.NET Framework Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 (Service Pack 1) Notes: The .NET Framework Client Profile is not supported. In order to run Toad, the .NET security policy must be set to Unrestricted. For information about setting this policy, refer to User Privilege Requirements. Web Browser Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or later PDF Viewer Adobe^® Acrobat^® Reader 7.0 or later (for viewing the Installation Guide) Existing DB2 Client Support (DB2 native provider only) Toad installs a DB2 9.5 client as part of the installation process. The DB2 9.5 client can co-exist with an existing DB2 8 client; however, it is incompatible with a DB2 7 client. If a DB2 7 client is already installed on the system, the Toad installation stops and cannot complete. You must upgrade to the DB2 8 client and restart the Toad installation to avoid losing functionality in some DB2 native tools. Oracle Client Toad can connect to Oracle using Direct Connect (no need for an Oracle Client) or can connect using an Oracle Client or Oracle Instant Client. However, if you want to use LDAP, you must install an Oracle Client. See "Configure Oracle LDAP Support" in the Toad for Data Analysts Installation Guide for more information. Toad supports 9i or later Oracle Clients and Oracle Instant Clients. See "Create Oracle Connections" in the Toad for Data Analysts Installation Guide for more information about configuring an Oracle Instant Client to work with Toad.

Database Support

Toad for Data Analysts supports almost all databases that you can connect to using an ODBC 3.0 or later driver.

Toad for Data Analysts Quality Assurance has tested the following databases using an ODBC 3.0 or later driver:

DB2 for i5/OS V5R4 and IBM i6.1 (limited testing)

Informix Dynamic 10.00, 11.0 (limited testing)

Ingres Community Edition 2006 R2 on Windows 32-bit (limited testing)

Global Operation

This section contains information about installing and operating this product in non-English configurations, such as those needed by customers outside of North America. This section does not replace the materials about supported platforms and configurations found elsewhere in the product documentation.

This release is Unicode-enabled and supports any character set. In this release, all product components should be configured to use the same or compatible character encodings and should be installed to use the same locale and regional options. This release is targeted to support operations in the following regions: North America, Western Europe and Latin America, Far-East Asia, Japan.
